Starting Small – Practical Resolutions for 2017!

It’s the last day of the year and that time again when we alternate between smiles and frowns as we muse over what’s happened while mother earth completes yet another trip around the sun! Customary as it is, New Year resolutions are in order, but for 2017 I thought let’s actually get the ball rolling with some practical resolutions that need just a bit of a push to achieve!

#1 Smartphone Detox

While life might become less cute and exciting, it can certainly do with lesser hours of kitten videos, Facebook, Selfies, and Crushed Candies. Doesn’t seem like such a bad idea to use a smartphone for smart things, well it’s just a year anyway. Might just improve my eyesight, make my schedules more efficient, and catch up with years of pending sleep!

#2 Keep a Gratitude Jar

Most of us get too caught up chasing what we want and forget to feel gratitude for the things we have. I am keeping a gratitude jar in 2017 and aim to fill it with notes of things that I am grateful for. Who knows how much of a confidence boost it is to know that you indeed have a lot in life!

#3 The Snooze Button Doesn’t Exist

An alarm never fails to go off it is us who seldom to wake to its call. While I am going to be more realistic about setting alarms I am getting rid of the snooze button from my life. With an early start to the day, I might just achieve some of those daily targets that I have always cut a sorry figure for!

#4 Get Creative with Savings

The lack of digits on my year-end account balance has inspired me in the most creative of ways. It isn’t only about setting those lofty SIP goals but getting creative with the avenues you choose to save money. Cooking at home and having amazing house parties over eating out frequently and catching up on reading in a crowded train over taking a cab to work are some things I plan to do in 2017. Who’s to say, I might just trudge over the five digit mark on my savings balance this year.

A wise person once said if you want to make the world a better place start by cleaning your own backyard. 2017 is going to be about these small resolutions for me and with the extra dose of motivation their success will bring, I am sure the bigger ambitions on my bucket list will be closer at hand when I make 2018’s resolutions!
